Functional Friday no. 38 Essential Oil of the week - Protective Blend

For this weeks functional Friday post I thought I'd share one of the MOST FUNCTIONAL essential oil I own and I'm going to share all the ways I use it below...

This Protective blend is used for immune support but also has cleaning properties, which is why I not only use it topically, aromatically and internally, but also as a cleaning agent added to my homemade cleaning supplies.  It is a blend of wild orange, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary essential oils and it offers a fragrant, natural and effective alternative to synthetic options for immune support.

I use it a protective blend topically;  This blend is similar to the thieves oil, which was created based on thieves vinegar from the legend of the thieves from the black plague. It supports the immune system. I do NOT use essential oils on my babies before they are 6 months old and I always dilute them with coconut oils for my kids.  I use a spoonful of coconut oil in my hand and add one drop {just a reminder they are super concentrated, 1 drop of peppermint oil is equivalent to 27 cups of peppermint tea, I promise one drop is enough!} of the essential oil and rub it together until the coconut oil melts, I rub the mixture into my kids feet.  For myself, I do not use as much or any coconut oil but also rub it into my feet.  When using an oil it can enter the bloodstream within 30 seconds. I notice when my family is starting to feel off or when we've been exposed to someone who is sick, we can do this and take probiotics and we often find ourselves healthier quicker than lots of people around us. This is my favorite and best example of topical use.
aromatically;  The most common place for me to diffuse or use an oil aromatically is in the bathroom, I diffuse this Protective blend. It has orange in it so that helps the smell, but more importantly when someone is sick I diffuse it in the bathroom to help support the immune system.  By combining select herbs, some people believe we can protect our bodies from common seasonal or environmental threats.  I tend to believe this just based on the fact that when we get sick our symptoms calm down with use of protective blends.  I've also seen some studies where certain bacteria can't survive in the presence of some essential oils.  While I've yet to find a published article in the medical community, I choose to use it based on our family's previous successes as immune support and as part of our general health care routine.

internally {for serious immune support}; First of all I want to clarify that I never use it internally for children, because topical is enough for them, however for myself, when necessary I will add one drop of this protective blend to 32 ounces of water and drink it, that is a rare internal use for me, but it has helped.

and for cleaning;  When making surface cleaner spray, shower scrub and dishwasher detergent, I add this blend for it's cleaning properties.

You could also make your own blend using the individual oils if you have those, I also sometimes add frankincense to my blend. If you make it with individual oils you would need wild orangeclovecinnamoneucalyptus and rosemary essential oils but you could also make a similar blend with lemon instead of the orange, you can find ratio break down here when I made a copycat Thieves Oil a few years ago.

If you're curious why I choose the brand of oils I do, besides being Certified Pure quality, {meaning there is nothing else in the oil except the oil on the label} they also source their oils from their indigenous habitats, which means higher quality nutrients.

Disclaimer; Once again I'd like to clarify I'm a blogger, not a doctor, I do not suggest any of the above uses for you to try, I'm simply sharing what works for me and my family.
